Dr. Shumate is as good as they come when it comes to making an uncomfortable place (I'm not a fan of dentists) as comfortable as possible. He answers questions and explains things in an easy to understand manner for patients and he's always pleasant while you're in the chair with him. His staff is very nice and very pleasant and I always walk out smiling after a visit to his office.

Dr. Shumate is a great dentist. His attention to his patient's overall oral care is phenomenal. I greatly appreciate the time he takes to ensure you understand your treatment plans and any preventive measures. I highly recommend him.

The staff were welcoming and made me feel comfortable. The Doc was gentle, informative and straight forward…even if I move to another country I will definitely come there for my dental work.

I have been a patient at Waldorf Dental Care for years. I always receive exceptional care from Dr. Shumate. He takes his time and explains each procedure, provides recommendations, and responds to all of my questions. His assistant, Toni, is also very responsive and ensures that my son and I are well taken care of. The office is clean and safety precautions are consistently in place, which I especially appreciate. I recommend this practice to anyone seeking top notch dental care in Southern Maryland.

It is with great difficulty that I post this review. I initially felt a great sense of pride and honor when I found Waldorf Dental; a seemingly successful black owned dental office.
I recently visited Waldorf Dental Care because they were the only office in the area that accepted my insurance. I made an appointment for a cleaning last year, and it was almost 6 months before I could be seen. But when I arrived, I was examined and told to come back for a cleaning instead. I had been waiting for 2 years to get a cleaning due to health and employment problems. Unfortunately, I missed the appointment and was recently sent a bill for $50.
I was disappointed that I wasn't able to receive the cleaning I had requested during my initial visit. I feel that my time was wasted and my needs completely disregarded, and that the rescheduled appointment wasn't handled more efficiently. While I understand the need for a cancellation fee, I felt that $50 was excessive given the circumstances.
Overall, my experience with Waldorf Dental Care was frustrating and left me feeling like my time and money weren't valued. Or rather, my money is clearly more important than my time, or dental care. While the staff was polite and professional, I would hesitate to recommend this practice to others based on my personal experience.
Just imagine going to any other established business and asking for a service, and instead, they give you whatever service they want you to have and tell you to come back later to get the service you originally came in for.
Imagine going to a mechanic and asking for a tire rotation and an hour later you come back to find that they decided to do a diagnostic instead, and tell you to come back in a month to get that oil changed. And if you miss the appointment, they can send you a bill faster than they can give you an appointment.
