I’ve been coming to Hodges Family & Cosmetic Dentistry for about 14 years now and have had nothing but positive experiences. From the front office staff, to the hygienists, to Dr. Martinez-Hoppe, everyone is wonderful! Very clean, accommodating, and inviting practice. Would highly recommend to anyone!

I had a cavity that desperately needed to be filled before I went back to college and the receptionist was kind enough to let the dentist know my situation. She fit me in one of her openings and was able to do it. I don’t like going to the dentist but I nearly fell asleep in the chair just because I didn’t feel a thing nor was there any moment of uncomfortableness. Hodges does a great job.

It’s “HIPAA” not “HIPPA”.
Signs of a sub-par dentist:
- Hygienist is different each time you visit
- The doctor watches TV while doing a filling (do you guys still have TVs in front of every chair?)
- Doc can tell you a cavity is forming but they aren’t going to do anything about it until it becomes a cavity (“prophylactic treatment bad, milking insurance for money good”)- fluoride sealants exist and they do a wonderful job at preventing a cavity from forming. They even remineralize teeth, reversing decay (to an extent! It’s not magic… but it’s more than Dr. Martinez ever offered).
- Appointments are difficult to book. When I went to this dentist, they’d be booked a solid ~7 months out, so you actually couldn’t get a cleaning every 6 months even if you wanted to. Appointments to fill a cavity had to be booked months out.
I magically stopped getting cavities as soon as I stopped seeing Dr. Martinez (this was back in 2017). I haven’t had cavity since. A coincidence I’m sure…
Anyway, if the above describes your experience, know that it doesn’t have to be that way. Of course a would-be new dentist will probably be more than 5 minutes from your house. I think the success of this practice is mostly due to its prime location. It really couldn’t be in a better location.
I almost forgot! Fillings have always hurt for me. The anesthesia never seems to work. When she did the filling on me back in 2017, she was nice enough to use more anesthesia, but after I still indicated nerve pain from the drill, she brushed it off as being in my head.
I really don’t understand where all the five star reviews come from. More power to her, but at the same time I’m not going to let conformity bias force me into a “it must have been me” mindset.
I highly suggest anyone reading this organizes the reviews by lowest first. There seem to be many others who had similar experiences. When in doubt, get a second opinion. I’m thankful I did 7 years ago. God only knows how many “cavities” I would have had by now if I kept going back here.
Also, I left a review back in 2018 and it seems to have been erased. I’m curious to see how long this review stays up.
Reply to the reply- Reviews can absolutely be erased. I’m incredibly transparent that I haven’t been since 2017 (2018?) and that things may have improved since.
What’s interesting to me is what whoever is responding to client reviews is choosing to address vs ignore. Completely disregards the doctor’s bedside manner, professionalism, or concern for her patients’ comfort beyond “actually, she does care”.
I attribute my improved home care primarily to my Sonicare toothbrush, which I hadn’t even heard of until my *new* hygienist mentioned it. I also hadn’t heard of “adult sealants” until my new hygienist mentioned them, and nobody at Hodges Family & Cosmetic Dentistry mentioned nitrous oxide as an alternative/supplement to local anesthesia- nitrous oxide would have been great!
I’m sure every dentist sees patients for second opinions. Sometimes it’s the smart thing for a patient to do. I will say I would be surprised if Dr. Martinez-Hoppe gave anybody a more *optimistic* second opinion (eg “actually you don’t need ______”) except in the rarest of circumstances.
There’s no denying my experience was decidedly worse than it needed to be. There’s also no denying the absolute sea of 5-star reviews the practice has and how little effect the occasional negative review will have. My main goal with this years-later review is to make people aware that the things I experienced in ~2017 are not the “standard” and if this is still how things roll at Hodges Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, they may want to go elsewhere.
P.S. Adhering to federal law (HIPAA) isn’t the flex you think it is, it’s the bare-minimum. Why would you want or need to go into detail about my treatment on a response to a Google review?

I recently visited here for an initial eval and cleaning. When I came into schedule my visit I was quoted $155 for my initial visit plus the additional cost of a cleaning if done that day. When checking out I was told I owed over $600. They failed to be transparent with me about the additional costs of x-rays that apparently were not included in the “eval”. I was prepared to pay the $155 plus the additional cost of the cleaning however I was very surprised when I was charged over double what I expected to pay. I have reached out to them via email with no response to my concern of lack of transparency in pricing. Overall I am very dissatisfied in the patient care I received and will not be returning nor do I recommend anyone to visit here.

I called the office this morning because a crown came off while eating delicious peanut brittle. 🙄 The office was able to fit me into their schedule in 1/2 hour! I was so grateful to Yovanna, who took my initial phone call and also directed me to their office location when I was close by. Rebecca, the dental assistant, was very pleasant as she took X-rays, etc. Dr. Martinez-Hoppe was very nice, answered a question I had about another crown, and advised as to whether the crown should be replaced. There was no pressure about doing so. Rebecca had a Treatment Plan sheet ready for me, should I decide to have a new crown. Such a nice experience in this well-run, caring office. Thanks to all of you.
